James Hyun

Percussion Assistant Teacher

A percussionist and an arts administrator, James Hyun combines performance and leadership to forge a distinctive path in music. As a performer, James has been featured in several recording projects with Vanderbilt Percussion Group, performing works by Deane, Lansky, and Kotche. His recent performance highlights include playing Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt with the Metropolis Ensemble as a Sandbox Percussion Seminar participant. He also performed Reich’s Nagoya Marimbas at Constellation Chamber Concerts with the Peabody Percussion Group. Beyond the stage, he has worked at BSO’s OrchKids and Arts and Business Council of Greater Boston, supporting and providing growth opportunities to students and emerging artists.

James is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Percussion Performance at the Peabody Institute and earned a Bachelor of Musical Arts in Percussion from Vanderbilt University.
